There’s a wonderful anecdote involving legendary Green Bay Packers coach Vince Lombardi, miffed at how his players had been performing of late, beginning a team meeting by holding up an official NFL pigskin with exaggerated flourish. “Gentlemen,” announced Lombardi archly, “THIS is a football.” From the back of the room, wide receiver and merry prankster Max Mc-Gee piped up: “Can you slow down, coach?
