(Rapid City)…You know things are bad when you’re looking forward to a bus trip out of Rapid City and over to Colorado. But the Kings couldn’t get out of the city quickly enough. Things went from bad to worse in a game that they gave up 42 shots on net. Capped off by a 4-2 loss to the Rush.
The Kings had a rough start , the Rush swarmed their net in the opening period. Rapid City took a 2-0 lead on a pair of goals, scoring for the Rush were Derek LeBlanc and Ryan Menei. The Kings responded by earning the first goal of the night It came courtesy of Matt Summers (PPG) with 31 seconds left in the first period. It was 2-1 Rush after one period of play.
In the second period, the Rush added to their lead quickly. first on a goal from Scott Wray at 1:30(PPG). Then Kevin Harvey scored at the 2:52 mark for the Rush, it was 4-1 Rapid City. Mississippi goaltender Kyle McNulty got the hook and was replaced by new netminder Alexander Pechurskiy. At 6:38 of the second period Dumont scored for the Kings shorthanded and it was 4-2 Rush at the end of forty minutes.
Nothing changed in the third period and the final was 4-2 Rush. Rapid City improved their season record to 5-4-1, while the RiverKings dropped its second straight and fell to 4-6-0. The Kings were outshot 42-36.
The RiverKings were 1-for-8 on the power play(ouch) and the Rush were 1-for-7.
Quote from the coach
“Besides the power-play goal they got, their other three goals were off blatant turnovers and that’s what cost us the game,” Mississippi head coach Kevin Kaminski said. “You have to eliminate your mistakes, they were blatant and they capitalized. Pechurski did a very good job to give us a chance, but you can’t give up that many goals to a good team and expect to win.”
Final thoughts from Joe Sports in Rapid City
I thought we had three or four forwards that played really well tonight. As for the other four or five etc… well they just weren’t there.
You need only look at Landmesser, Richards, Christian’s final numbers to see where they stood. Landmesser, Richards and Christian had no points and all were -2 on the night.
The Kings paid dearly for their defensive miscues, the D was horrible on Friday night, 42 shots is not acceptable. They were soft defensively around their own net for the first two periods and the Rush capitalized. Once they tightened that up in the third, they played much better, but inconsistent.
Who should pay for the way were playing the coach, the players, management, or all of the above?
Seriously folks we are flirting with disaster. This could be a long long season for the Kings and Kings fans. We have to start playing with some desire.
That’s the way I see it and I’m Joe Sports.
