First to 100: Grizzlies clinch playoffs, beat Kings 101-96

The Grizzlies are in the playoffs again Memphis. Celebrate.

It’s didn’t come easy, but it’s playoff time! The Grizzlies fended off a late Sacramento rally to seal the victory in front of a rowdy and euphoric 16,517 at FedExForum.

The late missed free throws (two by Z-Bo, one by Sam Young) kept the game within three points with 10.6 left on the clock. After Tyreke Evans airballed a desperation three, Zach Randolph sealed the win with two final free throws while Tony Allen watched from halfcourt on his knees.

But a big third quarter and strong final minutes kept the Grizzlies ahead, and the playoffs are now a reality.

With the playoffs clinched, the remaining three games in the season will decide playoff positioning. The Grizzlies play both New Orleans and Portland, the two teams ahead of them in the standings, before the season ends.

Quotable: Tony Allen on his popularity, “It doesn’t matter. It’s bigger than me. It’s about the Memphis Grizzlies.”

First to 100 is a new feature for MemphiSport.net that will appear after every Grizzlies home game. 100 or so words of the best stuff from that night’s action.
