The sellout crowd of 18,119 was the most raucous of the Grizzlies FedExForum tenure, proudly waving their provided white “growl towels” and giving the newly nicknamed “The Grindhouse” a reason for the moniker.
Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol were key for the Grizzlies inside, combining for 42 of the Grizzlies 91 points. Mike Conley added 14.
Despite trailing for three quarters, a few times by more than 14, the Spurs mounted a late run in the fourth quarter, managing to force a late tie and keep the game close in the final minutes. The Grizzlies never relinquished the lead though, and Randolph’s three sealed the game.
For the Memphis crowd and the Grizzlies however, there was no losing this game. No losing a game where Jerry “The King” Lawler pumped up the crowd before tipoff. No losing a game where Tim Duncan air-balled his first free throw in the opening seconds, and no losing another playoff game in Memphis.
First to 100 is a new feature for MemphiSport.net that will appear after every Grizzlies home game. 100 or so words of the best stuff from that night’s action.
