In 1951, Eugene Kolkey sketched a tiger named Tony for a contest to become the official mascot of a then brand-new breakfast cereal. For the next six decades, this tiger would utter the familiar ”They’re Grrrrreat!” catchphrase.
“Grrrrreat!” is how Memphis feels about Tiger Lane. After an easy win last year in its first foray into the M Awards, Tiger Lane officially distances itself from the competition this year by an amazing 26-point lead over second place finisher, Home. Maybe if we spend a $15 million to renovate Home this year, then Home might stand a chance in next years awards. Who do I need to talk to to make that happen?
Tiger Lane, First Place: 42.02%
Home, Second Place: 15.34%
Beale Street, Third Place: 14.72%
Best song to listen to while contemplating this category… Tony the Tiger by Manchester Orchestra. So what do you think, Memphis? Do you get it right? Is tailgating at Tiger Lane before a Tiger Football game really better than pub-crawling on Beale Street before a Grizz game? What is the best tailgating accessory? Games? Food? Special mixed drinks?
