Top 10 Sports Figures With A Name That Sounds Like An Alcoholic Beverage

Now that Dave Joerger is the head coach will FedExForum have a half priced jagermeister night?

Now that Dave Joerger is the head coach for the Memphis Grizzlies, will FedExForum have a half priced jagermeister night?

Dave Joerger is the new head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies.

In honor of all the jagermeister jokes swirling around the Bluff City, here are the Top 10 Sports Figures With A Name That Sounds Like An Alcoholic Beverage:

Dave Joerger
It is only fitting that we start with the new coach for the hometown Memphis Grizzlies, who shares a name with one of the most well known liquors in the world .  He has big shoes to feel following the winningest coach in franchise history, but Grizzlies leadership is behind him 100 percent.

Sydney Leroux
Leroux is a half Canadian/half American soccer star for the USA’ women’s team.  She scored 17 goals in 16 international games during the 2012 Olympics, but more importantly she will be posing nude for ESPN the Magazine’s “The Body Issue”.  Leroux is one of the cheaper brandies around, but when you look like this, you make my list any time.

Edward “Fireball” Roberts, Jr.
A legend in NASCAR, “Fireball” Roberts suffered a fatal accident at the World 600 in Charlotte in 1964.  He was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 1995, and has been named NASCAR’s 50 Greatest Drivers.

Jack Daniels
Jack Daniels is not just one of the best whiskeys around, he is also a renowned coach in track and field.  He has multiple books on running, two Olympic medals (1956 silver and 1960 bronze), and continues to coach Olympic athletes to this day.

Bud Selig
The current baseball commissioner shares a nickname with one of the most popular beer brands around.  This Bud’s for you… Bud

Reginald Miller
Hall of Famer Reggie Miller has given an entirely different meaning to the phrase “It’s Miller time.”  Miller was so good, that some New York Knicks fans still do not drink anything from the Miller brewery to this day.

Antawn Jamison
His last name may not be spelled the same way as the fine Irish whiskey (Jameson), but he makes the list nevertheless.  Jamison won every major award in college basketball during the ’97-’98 season including AP Player of the Year, John R. Wooden Award, and Naismith Men’s College Player of the Year.  He is also a two time NBA All-Star, and probably enjoys an Irish Highball every now and then.

Joe Morgan
Morgan is one of the greatest second basemen in MLB history.  He won back to back MVP awards in ’75 and ’76, and was also the captain of the ’75 and ’76 Reds teams who won back to back World Series.  Is it possible that he had “A Little Captain” in him way back in the day?

Bud Grant, Jr.
The most successful coach in Minnesota Vikings history, Bud Grant was the first coach to lead teams to the Grey Cup Finals and the Super Bowl. He is 14th on the NFL’s all-time wins list and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1994.  Anheuser Busch would be proud of this particular Bud if he was a beer.

Mike Miller
The last name Miller is synonymous with great shooting in basketball and great beer, as Mike is the second sharp shooter to make this list with the last name Miller.  A two time NBA Champion, Miller won Sixth Man of the Year while playing for the Memphis Grizzlies.

Memphis Wrestling legend Jackie Fargo passes away

“The Fabulous” Jackie Fargo passed away Monday morning at age 82. The wrestling legend had been hospitalized in critical condition for over a week after being found unconscious at his home.

Jackie Fargo’s bio at MemphisWrestlingHistory.com:

As much as Jerry Lawler was the city’s most important wrestler, Jackie Fargo was probably it’s most loved. He was the soul of Memphis Wrestling because of his 1960s and early 1970s run here. The majority of the success of the Fabulous Ones angle that was started in 1982 was because of the support Jackie gave the whole thing. Truly a Memphis Legend.

If you thought nothing could make Memphis Grizzlies guard Tony Allen‘s tweets better, you were wrong.

ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live assembled a children’s choir to sing the 140 character thoughts of NBA players. Last week, Allen got his turn.
