Recap: WWE RAW in Memphis

raw

When Jerry “The King” Lawler shows up at FedExForum driving his brand new Batmobile, you know WWE Monday Night RAW is in Memphis!

So much wrestling history emanates from Memphis, Tenn.  RAW in Memphis was no different.

What a night of action it was, where tag team wrestling was featured, Elvis ran a muck, Big Show gave us his best “Stone Cold” Steve Austin impersonation & FedExForum was packed to the rafters.

Big Show made a huge impact from start to finish on RAW.  He opened & closed the program by interrupting The Authority (Triple H & Stephanie).  Big Show’s Memphis wrestling history runs very deep.  Especially, with the McMahon family.  Big Show debuted in The Pyramid for WWE at St. Valentine’s Day Massacre in 1999.  Big Show attempted to help Vince McMahon defeat Stone Cold Steve Austin inside of a steel cage.

This time around, Big Show wreaked havoc by driving a massive truck through the arena, during Daniel Bryan & Randy Orton’s contract signing – in true Stone Cold fashion.

The main storyline of the night was the contract signing between Daniel Bryan & Randy Orton for Hell in a Cell, where they will battle for the vacant WWE Championship.  Daniel Bryan is certainly no stranger to the city of Memphis.

Bryan started his WWE career under the alias The American Dragon.  He competed in Memphis Championship Wrestling where he was under developmental contract with WWE.  After being released from the company and returning, he is now one of the biggest stars in the company.

Santino made for some comic relief, showing up to compete in full Elvis garb.  Afterwards, he invited Jerry “The King” Lawler to show off his Elvis dance moves for the Memphis audience, while standing on the broadcast desk.  No, really.  King danced with Santino Elvis-style.

Last but certainly not least, RAW in Memphis saw the WWE debut of none other than Shoebaby.  That’s right!  Memphis Wrestling fans know Zeb Colter as Dutch Mantell, one of Jerry Lawler’s arch-rivals for many years.  Alongside Dutch has always been his number one weapon – a whip named Shoebaby.  What better way to introduce Shoebaby than in Memphis?

WWEAfter tonight’s episode of Monday Night Raw went off the air, Big Show was removed from the building by security, following instructions from Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. Daniel Bryan then defeated Randy Orton in the dark match. This wasn’t the usual 20-minute match WWE has been running at most WWE Live events, but rather a short, solid win for Bryan to send the crowd home happy.Several reports are saying that while Bray Wyatt was on Raw tonight, and walking around without help, when the cameras were off of him he was definitely favoring the injured leg. Also, despite Randy Orton being the #1 heel in the company at the moment, possibly after Triple H, he got a mixed reaction from the crowd, with a lot of people cheering for him over Dolph Ziggler. Orton has always been incredibly over with the female demographic.
