Throwback Thursday: The Master and Ruler of the World

Sid ViciousIn 1995, the Memphis-based USWA saw the crowning of a new Champion.  With the fans fully behind him, “The Master & Ruler of the World” captured the Championship by defeating none other than Jerry “The King” Lawler.

In this week’s clip, Lance Russell & Corey Maclin open the show with the big announcement that Sid Vicious has become the new Unified Heavyweight Champion.  Also, you’ll see highlights of their Championship match, an interview from Sid himself & his first title defense against Tony Myers.

Why do they call Sid “The Master & Ruler of the World?”  This clip will shed a little light for you.

Sid Vicious was not only one of my favorite wrestlers growing up but he’s a friend of MSL, as well.  Sid Vicious can claim something that not many other men can – he pinned Jerry Lawler for the USWA Unified Heavyweight Championship.

Fun Facts:  Approximately one year later, Sycho Sid defeated Shawn Michaels for the WWF World Heavyweight Championship at Survivor Series.
