“The Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart is known all around the world as one of the most famous – if not THE most famous wrestling managers of all time. Hart has managed legendary wrestlers like Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, The Honky Tonk Man and even arch-rival Jerry “The King” Lawler.
To say that Jimmy Hart has been successful as an entertainer for nearly fifty years would be an understatement. Jimmy was the best because he would always build a family around him. That family was simply known as The First Family.
The original First Family was founded in the late 1970s by Hart to take the Memphis-based CWA Championship from his former protégé, Jerry Lawler. The group extensively feuded with Lawler into the 1980s, which brings us to today’s clip.
Let’s rewind to 1981, where Lance Russell is set to interview the First Family and Jimmy Hart. As Jimmy boasts, he credits himself with settling the recent baseball strike and clears up rumors of his involvement with Lady Diana. Lies are easily told when you have The First Family as back-up. As the clip continues, you’ll see humiliation at its finest, courtesy of Jerry Lawler and company. The great Lance Russell gives us the play-by-play.
Hardcore wrestling fans will recognize many of the faces involved with the huge studio brawl. A legendary line-up duke it out as one WWE Hall of Famer tars & feathers another WWE Hall of Famer. Only in Memphis.
Wrestling Trivia: Can you name the participants involved in the studio brawl?
Fun Facts: Before becoming involved with professional wrestling, Jimmy Hart was a member of the rock band The Gentrys. The Gentrys are best known for their 1965 top five Billboard Hot 100 hit, “Keep on Dancing”.
