Over 1,500 fans packed the Resorts Tunica Ballroom to watch Memphis Power Wrestling‘s Revenge at Resorts II Cool. It was an action-packed night mixed with wrestling stars of the past, present and future, including several current WWE Hall of Famers. The audience was able to see many of their favorites throughout the years of Memphis Wrestling.
Former Memphis Wrestling manager and booker Brandon Baxter was host of the event, even catching an interview with WWE Hall of Famer Rocky “Soulman” Johnson. Senior referee Jerry Calhoun was on-hand for officiating duties. Even former WWE and USWA manager Downtown Bruno made appearances throughout the night.
Former WWE Tag Team Champioins Too Cool were able to capture a victory over former TNA stars Chase Stevens & Crimson in tag team action. As we have covered in the past, both Brian Christopher & Scotty Too Hotty spent time honing their craft inside the ranks of Memphis Wrestling. Their opponents have also performed in Memphis television on many occasions.
Rumor has it, Rikishi will make his return at the next event. Stinkface, anyone?
Speaking of insulting wrestling maneuvers, nearly the entire MSL crew was on hand to witness Dustin Starr with Maria face off against DX & nWo member X-Pac. With all of the hype and trash we talked, X-Pac only had “two words for us.”
After a hard-fought match, X-Pac came out on top in the end – literally.
Just ask Maria…
The Main Event of the evening saw Jerry “The King” Lawler square off against “Vampire Warrior” Gangrel. Gangrel, of course, is famous for his run with WWE, along with his faction The Brood (with a young Edge & Christian). Gangrel also spent his early years in the Memphis-based USWA. This turned out to be a very dangerous match for Lawler, although he was the victor in the end. Gangrel hit Lawler with a heart punch that nearly ended the contest.
