Dannie and Karen Davis first met in 1984 during which both were attending Trezevant Vo-Tech in Northeast Memphis.
The two have since been virtually inseparable.
Dannie and Karen will be celebrating 28 years of marriage on June 19. In MemphiSport’s salute to Super Dads in which we will highlight fathers throughout the month of June, Kay felt compelled to pay tribute to Dannie, whom she labels as her “best friend for life.”
“We both in high school and we were drawn to each other because we shared the same values that were taught to us by our parents,” said Karen, explaining how she became attracted to Dannie. “We were taught to be respectful to ourselves and to each other and to love the Lord with all our heart and mind. We both grew up in church and we came from a Christian, close knit family.”
Throughout nearly decades, Karen noticed, among other things, that her husband has a deep admiration for the Dallas Cowboys. According to her, his love for “America’s Team” is, in many aspects, parallel to the love and support he shown for her and their family.
“Just like the team he loves, he’s a great team player in our family,” Karen said of Dannie. “Dannie is a team player not a rule breaker. He makes sure his team, which is his family, has everything we need in order to keep us happy and together. Dannie goes the extra mile for his family and friends. His personality is strong, yet full of life. He is a great example of what it means to be a husband and father to our two beautiful adult children. Just like football teams travel from city to city to play, I have traveled with my husband from country to country, seeing this beautiful world. Enjoying life with a wonderful man is a blessing.”
In MemphiSport’s salute to Super Dads, Karen describes Father’s Day as a special occasion for her, considering her husband has steadfastly demonstrated to have been a “team player.”
“Dannie this is for you because you are the love of my life, the father of our children, and today is a very special day for us,” Karen said. “From the day our love began, we started to have common goals that we’ve have achieved with our efforts and dedication. You have been my biggest supporter and motivator. Being with you I have learned so much about life and have had many experiences and difficulties. But we have always been able to get ahead because you always see the positives in me. You are truly a great example and role model for our family. I can not stop loving you. You never stop spoiling me with surprises. I love you more and it seems like yesterday that we got married.” I want to be with you for the rest of my life. Don’t ever forget that. Happy Father’s Day. Happy Anniversary!”
Twenty-eight years and counting.
