We are proud to announce that former WCW World Heavyweight Champion “Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner will join MSL for an exclusive interview this Saturday, June 7th. Steiner is schedule to appear in Union City, TN for an event entitled PoppaMania later that evening.
Die-hard Memphis Wrestling fans will know that this isn’t Steiner’s first trip to the Mid-South. Did you know Scott Steiner made his way through the Memphis-based CWA long before he was known as the “Big Bad Booty Daddy?”
This week’s Throwback Thursday features a young Scott Steiner making his debut for Continental Wrestling Association back on April 2, 1988. In this week’s classic clip, Steiner makes his first appearance in Memphis by teaming with the late Billy Joe Travis and Memphis Wrestling legend Jeff Jarrett.
(Match starts at 45:00 mark)
He might not have been called “Big Poppa Pump” back in 1988, but he sure did make short work of his opponent. A 48 second victory is impressive nonetheless.
Scott Steiner went on to hold the CWA Tag Team Titles on three different occasions before heading to World Championship Wrestling. Steiner is undoubtedly one of the greatest tag team wrestlers of all time with his brother Rick Steiner. Collectively, they held the WCW Tag Titles 6 times & the WWF Tag Titles 2 times. Scott Steiner eventually broke away from the tag team and became WCW World Heavyweight Champion in 2000.
“Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner will join MemphiSport Live (MSL) for an exclusive interview on Sports 56 & 87.7 FM on Saturday, June 7th. MSL airs live from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm Central and will be hosted by myself & the lovely Maria Garay.
Steiner will be discussing his time in Memphis, his amazing achievements throughout the years & his involvement in PoppaMania later that evening in Union City, TN at 308 South First St. The event starts at 7pm, with doors opening at 6PM. A special meet and greet with Scott Steiner is scheduled for 5PM. Ticket prices for the meet and greet + the wrestling event are only $12. Advance tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for kids. To purchase your advanced tickets, please call 731.446.8912. Tickets at the door are just $10.
Fun Facts: Scott Steiner won his first CWA Tag Team Championship with his partner Billy Joe Travis. Their reign ended at the hands of Gary Young & “The Outlaw” Don Bass. Don Bass not only broke me into the wrestling business, but he initially trained me to become a professional wrestler.
