Throwback Thursday: Andy Kaufman & Jimmy Hart are out to get The King

Memphis Wrestling has been the starting point for some of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time.  Along with that, we’ve seen some of the greatest wrestling managers of all time, as well.  For Memphis fans, it doesn’t get any bigger than Jimmy Hart and Andy Kaufman.

The two men were notorious for trying to dethrone The King.  At one time, their stable was the strongest in the territory as they brought in new faces to go head-on with Lawler.  We all know the history between Andy Kaufman, Jimmy Hart & Jerry Lawler – it has been well-documented.  But while I was searching for this week’s Throwback Thursday clip, I came across something that was just too gruesome not to share.

This week’s classic clip features WWE Hall of Famer “The Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart.  Hart is at the desk with Lance Russell to inform the world that his friend Andy Kaufman has found a new monster to face The King.  That monster is none other than Man Mountain Link… and you won’t believe what he does on live TV.

Yes, folks.  Man Mountain Link is eating a raw chicken!  How do I know?  I was fortunate enough to meet Man Mountain Link many years later and I witnessed him do this live!

Many competitors have made their way to the Mid-South Coliseum to face off with The King.  And Lawler, to his credit, has defeated them all.  On May 23rd in the parking lot of the Mid-South Coliseum, The King will do it once again.  Who will The King face at Roundhouse Revival?  For more information on Roundhouse Revival, click here.

Don’t Forget:  Memphis Wildfire Wrestling returns on April 23rd!  Catch all the action at Woodland Hills Country Club in Cordova, TN.  Already scheduled: Brian Christopher vs Derrick King, R&D vs Action Jackson and Dustin “FIVE” Starr with Maria vs “SUPERSTAR” Bill Dundee!  For the latest info, click here.

I know I am going to get slammed for this but part of the problem with Memphis Wrestling now is they haven’t been able to create any new stars in years. I am sorry but Lawler vs Dundee for the ten thousandth time, doesn’t do it for me anymore. Nothing against those legends, but you have to move on at some point. When they stop wrestling completely, what is Memphis going to do? Plus the fact that the King hasn’t ever done much in the WWE in terms of wrestling in the ring to me has hurt his career over the last twenty-five years. No offense to him, we all love the King.
