DaVita Gayle Garfield once played competitive football.
Yep, you read that correctly.
Armed with an outrageously wealth of beauty, Garfield on Wednesday recalled how she was a member of the Philadelphia Sports And Social Club League in 2008, which afforded her to play co-ed recreational and competitive touch football for approximately six years until her health had begun to reduce her effectiveness.
“When I started playing football, I discovered my extremely competitive nature very quickly,” Garfield told longtime journalist Andre Johnson. “I have an obsession for mastering anything I put my time to, so I spent a lot of time learning and understanding the game mentally and physically.”
To her credit, Garfield — beauty and all — had become a fixture while engaging in recreational sports for an extended period of time, having gone to great lengths to become a catalyst in the social club league until disaster struck and ultimately left her young life hanging in the balance.
Hampered by what doctors described as an “unexplained medical crisis” in 2012, Garfield literally was left fighting for her life as she battled through stress, depression, frustration and, according to her, periodic stretches of anger.
How could this possibly happen?
What exactly did this dynamically beautiful mother of one do that gave way to her suddenly witnessing her young life take a tear-jerking, disheartening twist?

Like many of her peers, Garfield was one who was steadfastly savoring and embracing life, as precious and as fragile as it is.
But what she would soon discover was that God was strategically positioning and equipping her for her divine purpose, a purpose about which she would fulfill by way of clearing arguably the greatest hurdle of her life.
In a rather dauntless effort to “renew her life,” Garfield’s reputation is such that she is one who’s accustomed to defying odds and fending off satan’s customary attacks.
With her young life all but hanging in the balance some two years ago, there she was, fighting the good fight of faith.
Having undergone hours of surgery for her sudden, life-changing diagnosis of a rare and life-threatening disease known as Cushing’s Disease, doctors discovered a tumor on Garfield’s pituitary gland, an occurrence that eventually prompted her to become more enlightened about her illness.

As Garfield tells it, her faith and determination to become healthy, thus recapture a peace of mind, had become even stronger in the process.
Ahhhh…the dreaded process. As gruesome and emotional and scary as it seemed upon her diagnosis, Garfield — even while enduring arguably the fight of her life — pressed and navigated her way through the process like the big-hearted, resilient champion she is.
Vowing to never give up on life, she still admittedly wanted answers for what all had transpired in a life that was filled with much promise.
Consequently, in 2014, the tumor was successfully removed and, to this very day, Garfield remains in remission, favorable health, high spirits, all of which have greatly enabled her to shift her focus where it belongs — on living her best life on purpose, she says, all while displaying her customary beautiful smile.
Today, unlike never before, Garfield has appropriately embraced her new lease on life by way of emerging as a thriving author, motivational speaker, and progressive entrepreneur.
Garfield is founder and chief executive officer of EmpowermentNow, LLC, an organization she established in March 2015 to provide coaching and consulting services to women, as well as assists them in identifying and devising a strategic plan to fulfill their life goals, particularly in areas of personal development and their respective career.
“I believe that I was purposed with allowing my testimony to be used to help inspire others so I have to share it no matter what,” Garfield explained. “I believe that our experiences were not designed just for us to keep our triumphs and successes to ourselves.”
In addition to erecting what is shaping up to become a flourishing business venture, Garfield has been afforded to savor her newest endeavor with the much-anticipated publishing and release of her first book entitled, “Tell the Whole Story: Embrace Your Journey to Become Amazing on Purpose.”
“My journey to become unstuck and finally embrace my own story has allowed me to walk into the greatness God has planned for my life,” Garfield said of making her authorship debut. “This experience has purposed me to encourage others to embrace their own journey.”

In addition, “Tell the Whole Story,” Garfield said, is an informative guide that will start her readers on the path to:
♦ Acknowledge your experiences
♦ Accept the role such experiences have played in shaping who you are today
♦ Release the guilt, shame or pain.
♦ Embrace the journey as a whole and,
♦ Appreciate your greatness today and your greatness yet to come.
“In Tell the Whole Story, I am very transparent about my personal experiences as it relates to each area of embracing my journey,” said Garfield, adding that her primary role is being a mother to her amazing 12-year-old daughter, Aniah Rose. “I share my failures, my bad decisions, my tragedies, as well as my fight to overcome many odds and obstacles from childhood molestation, feeling of abandonment as a child, my battle with adult depression, diagnosis of a rare life-threatening disease, and ultimately a brain tumor. Learning how to embrace every one of my experiences and share my testimony is how I learned to be successful on purpose and encourage others to do the same.”
In the meantime, Garfield emphasized that she is currently promoting and speaking about her new book on various platforms and working on the launching of a live workshop called, “Embrace The Journey, Heal the Pain.”
“It is centered on the commitment to do the work…to heal from the pain of our experiences and truly do the work to embrace our journey to be the best version of ourselves,” Garfield said.
All while displaying her customary beautiful smile in process.
