Things could not be better for Ole Miss. The Rebels just shocked the college football world by signing the top players in the nation, securing a top ten recruiting class. Hugh Freeze clearly carried the momentum from his first year as head coach into the recruiting season. In Coach Freeze’s first year, the Rebels went to a bowl game, defeating Pitt to give them a winning record for the first time since 2009. More importantly, the Golden Egg now resides in Oxford after the Rebels handled in state rival Mississippi State this past season. With this caliber recruiting class Ole Miss is poised to make some serious noise in the SEC in the upcoming years.
Things are beginning to look up for the Rebels on the basketball court as well. After a huge win over new SEC member Missouri, Ole Miss soared into the top 25, climbing as high as 16th in the AP Poll. The Rebels are fifth in the nation in scoring, currently third in the SEC overall, and are sure to be in the NCAA Tournament come March.
You can add a possible “DJ champion” to the list of Rebels accomplishments this year as well.
Red Bull is hosting a Thre3Style University competition to find the top local DJ on February 15th at the Lyric in Oxford. Five DJs will battle (three of which hail from Ole Miss), with the winner getting the opportunity to DJ at Club La Vela in Panama City. Special guest judges include Carley Keyes, Rebels receiver Collins Moore, and the duo that is “back like Lebron’s hairline” King Kobraz. DJs will be judged on several criteria including skills, originality, creativity, track selection, audience response, and stage presence. Each DJ will have a 15 minute set to incorporate three different genres of music and get the crowd hype.
