WrestleMania 29 – The Next Generation

WrestleMania 29 will feature the next generation of World Wrestling Entertainment.

Ryback leads the next generation of World Wrestling Entertainment.

WrestleMania 29 will feature WWE’s next generation of Super Stars. With Ryback leading the way, WWE is setting up for the future by featuring new talent on their largest event of the year.   Two of the wrestlers on that list are actually making their in-ring television debuts at WrestleMania 29.

No pressure.  Right?

I was fortunate to have the opportunity to meet & work with many of these wrestlers.  Each of them are very deserving of being able to perform on the grandest stage of them all – WrestleMania.

Let’s take a look at the next generation of the WWE.

Fandango:  Formerly known as Johnny Curtis, Fandango has been given significant television time leading up to WrestleMania.  Not only that, but he will actually make his official in-ring debut at WrestleMania against Chris Jericho.  Very few debut at WrestleMania.

Big E Langston:  Speaking of debuting at WrestleMania, Big E will finally make his in-ring debut as well.  He is the strongest man in the state of Florida & has the largest pectoral muscles I have ever seen in my life.  With a shot at the WWE Tag Team Championship against Team Hell No, Big E could solidify his position as part of the next generation.

Dolph Ziggler & AJ Lee:  The Tag Team Championships aren’t nearly as important for Dolph as they are for Big E.  Dolph has been teetering back & forth from WWE’s main event scene for a while.  Could WrestleMania be the night Mr. Money in the Bank cashes in?

The Shield:  All three members of The Shield will be making their WrestleMania debuts tomorrow night.  Roman Reigns is a rookie to the wrestling world, having only wrestled for 2 years.  Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose were independent wrestling super stars, in their own right.  The Shield will debut at WrestleMania against three of WWE’s top stars – Randy Orton, Sheamus & Big Show.  A victory would be huge for The Shield.

Ryback:  Ryback leads the next generation of World Wrestling Entertainment.  He will go one on one with Mark Henry, The World’s Strongest Man.  With a victory over Henry, Ryback will finally get his illustrious WrestleMania moment.

WrestleMania is where legends are made.  Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin, The Rock, John Cena & Mr. WrestleMania himself – Shawn Michaels… the list goes on.  Which next generation WWE Super Star will live forever?

WrestleMania 29 Predictions

WWE WrestleMania 29

WrestleMania 29, live from New Jersey!

It’s that time, once again.  The biggest sports entertainment event of the year.  The showcase of immortals.  It’s time for WrestleMania 29!

For the last several months on MSL, we have been discussing what exactly we are going to see at WrestleMania 29.  It would be uncharacteristic for me not to mention that I have pretty much “called it” up until this point.  So, how about some predictions?

Please, allow me to clarify before I go into my predictions:  I do not work for WWE.  I do not have inside information from the WWE.  These are not “spoilers”.  These are my opinions on what I think will happen at WrestleMania.

Let’s get started, shall we?

Chris Jericho v Fandango

This is a tough one to call.  I really like the Fandango character, believe it or not.  However, I do not see Jericho losing at WrestleMania.  I’m taking Y2J.  I’m guessing this match will open the show, since it will be one of the very best on the card.

WWE Tag Team Championship Match:  Team Hell No defend against Dolph Ziggler & Big E Langston with AJ Lee

Dolph Ziggler, Mr. Money in the Bank, has a Tag Team Championship Match at WrestleMania?  I think there’s a little more to this match that we aren’t seeing yet.  Be on the lookout for Ziggler to make more of an impact.  And his partner, Big E Langston, will not only make his in-ring debut at WrestleMania, but he will also win the Tag Titles.  New Champs!

Mark Henry v Ryback:

This match was made for one reason & one reason only – to showcase Ryback’s power.  Ryback wins with the Shell Shock to create his very first WrestleMania moment.

Intercontinental Championship Match:  Wade Barrett defends against The Miz

Just to show you how important this match is to the WWE, they put it on the Interactive Pre-Show.  Also, The Miz takes one of the biggest plunges in WrestleMania history.  Remember when he actually main evented WrestleMania?  Regardless, Miz is your new Intercontinental Champion.

Randy Orton, Sheamus & Big Show v The Shield

It’s very odd for me to see the likes of Orton & Sheamus, two of the biggest stars in the business, in a six man tag team match at Mania.  I’m taking The Shield for the upset.  If you beat The Shield now, then what’s next for them?

World Heavyweight Championship Match:  Alberto Del Rio defends against Jack Swagger

With all the controversy surrounding this match, it’s obvious to me that Del Rio will retain.  You have a borderline racial storyline, where the good guy gains the victory… but will Del Rio leave as the Champion?  I’m looking for Ziggler to cash in and steal the World Championship.

No Holds Barred Match; If Lesnar wins, Triple H must retire:  Brock Lesnar v Triple H

Triple H certainly hasn’t had very much luck, when it comes to WrestleMania.  Not recently, anyway.  Look for that luck to change, this year.  Triple H has to beat Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania… and he will.

The Undertaker v CM Punk

The streak is on the line, folks.  I’ve said it before & I’ll say it again – nobody will end the streak.  However, I do have to give credit where credit is due.  CM Punk has done an excellent job in making us believe that he can win at Mania.  But still, even with that being said – The Undertaker will never lose at WrestleMania.  NEVER.

WWE Championship Match:  The Rock defends against John CenaSimply put, John Cena will defeat The Rock & become the new WWE Champion.  No two-ways about it.  When it’s all said & done, Rock & Cena will be tied with one win apiece.  The real question here is when & where does the rubber match take place?

Do you have a different opinion of what will happen at WrestleMania?  Share your predictions.  I’d love to hear them.

Sports Illustrated says Bob Saget and others are ‘cooler’ than Jerry Lawler

According to Sports Illustrated’s list ranking of all 68 NCAA Tournament schools in order  by “coolest” alumnus (or alumna), Memphis’ own Jerry “The King” Lawler is not as cool as 64 other celebrities including Bob Saget, DJ Qualls, Ken Jeong, Adam Vinatieri, Kirstie Alley, George Wendt, John Lutz, Penny Marshall, Zach Galifinakis, Benson, Steve Guttenberg and fellow WWE superstar The Big Show.

How can this be? Is this list just another example of the national media not respecting the Memphis Tigers? Should Lawler challenge the staff of Sports Illustrated to a no disqualification match at WrestleMania?

Did WWE cross the line when Paul Heyman faked a heart attack as part of Jerry Lawler’s return?

Jerry Lawler’s friend and former Memphis wrestling business partner Jerry Jarrett watched The King’s return to RAW on Monday night and was not happy. Lawler’s return was interrupted by WWE Champion CM Punk and his manager Paul Heyman who went on to fake a heart attack.

Jarrett went on his Facebook page to express his outrage:

I watched WWE last night. Jerry Lawler was returning after surviving a life threatening heart attack. I sat watching the television with a feeling of pride that they were honoring the return of such a great wrestler. I sat thinking, “now this is real class”. Just when I was appreciating the class WWE was showing, it ended suddendly with a juvenile cheap heat angle. I turned the television off and starting thinking about Linda McMahon’s hard work and great expense running for the Senate. It is exactly this kind of programming that prevented her from becoming a Senator. Wrestling should have some limits and boundaries. If you offend great portions of the audience, it is a bad angle.
